Cuevas de Luna for property buyers

Cave homes range from complete residences to spaces needing substantial reform. Inspect the land above the cave, drainage, ventilation, façades, retaining walls, access and conventional extensions. Confirm which rooms, placeta, outbuildings and land are legally included.

Buyer check: Have title, registration, boundaries, planning status, utilities and alterations checked independently.

Everyday life

Local amenities

Cuevas de Luna is a rural community rather than a service centre. Benamaurel and Cortes de Baza offer nearby bread supplies, grocery shops, bars, cafés, pharmacies and routine services. Baza provides supermarkets, hospital care, professional services and a wider choice of shops. A car is generally necessary.

Past & heritage

A little history

Its position near the Guardal and Baza river routes gave Cuevas de Luna strategic importance. The remains of its tower formed part of the medieval network of lookouts communicating across the frontier landscape around Benamaurel and Baza. Later generations excavated naturally insulated cave homes and farmed the fertile river ground.

Local life

Fiestas & traditions

The settlement shares the traditions of Benamaurel municipality. The best-known annual celebration is Moros y Cristianos in honour of the Virgen de la Cabeza, when comparsas, music, processions and Los Papeles bring together the main village and surrounding communities.
